One-liner: Both apps turn speech into written text behind a global shortcut, and both now run on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. The fork is where the audio is processed and how the free tier ends: Wispr Flow processes in the cloud, hands you 2,000 words per week for free, then sells the Pro plan at $15/month ($12/month billed annually). Superwhisper transcribes on your device with local models — unlimited and free forever — and gates only the cloud models and AI modes behind Pro at $8.49/month, $84.99/year or $249.99 once. Both pricing pages were read directly on 2026-10-09; no account was created and nothing below is first-hand test output.

The free tier is the real comparison

Wispr Flow’s free plan is generous about what it does — speech-to-text in any app, 100+ languages, apps on all four platforms — and strict about how much: the pricing grid prints a 2,000 words/week desktop and 1,000/week mobile cap for Free, while Pro, Growth and Enterprise all read “Unlimited”. Free also gets “Limited Notetaker access”, so the meeting module exists on the free plan but not in full.

Superwhisper’s free plan has no word cap at all, because the transcription runs locally on your machine: the docs say Free gives unlimited dictation with any local Whisper model, custom vocabulary, text replacement, and up to two modes — and that “nothing you dictate leaves your device.” What Free withholds is everything that needs the cloud or AI: cloud voice models, file transcription, unlimited modes, context awareness, realtime transcription, speaker separation. New users get 3,000 words of Pro features to try before the app drops them back to Free.

So the weekly quota versus unlimited split is honest on both sides: Wispr Flow’s free tier is a taste of a cloud product; Superwhisper’s free tier is the complete offline product, permanently.

Limited-time note (page read 2026-10-09). Wispr Flow’s pricing page currently carries a “Notetaker’s on us” banner: teams that leave the Notetaker switched on get full access free through October 31, 2026, after which members “move to a limited plan afterwards” — the page labels it Limited Time and says the price will not automatically increase once the promotion ends. Treat it as a dated promotion, not a permanent free tier; if you are reading this after October 2026, the offer has likely expired.

Price math, both directions

At the entry paid tier, Superwhisper is cheaper every way you can pay: $8.49/month against Wispr Flow’s $15/month monthly billing, or $12/month against $84.99/year (~$7.08/month) if you buy annually. Superwhisper’s lifetime key at $249.99 stops being a subscription after roughly two years of annual Pro (249.99 ÷ 84.99 ≈ 2.9 years against the annual plan, ~3.4 years against monthly at $8.49).

Wispr Flow prices its second tier as Growth rather than a lifetime: $23/month monthly or $18/month annual for admin controls, with Enterprise custom. Neither vendor prints a per-user discount for teams on Wispr Flow’s page beyond the annual toggle; Superwhisper’s 40% student/non-profit discount applies to Monthly, Annual and Lifetime purchases made on superwhisper.com.

Where each one argues for itself

Wispr Flow’s case is team vocabulary and a managed cloud: the paid tiers add shared dictionaries, snippets, and admin controls for keeping an organization’s terminology consistent, plus the Notetaker. Its platform story is complete today — the pricing grid lists Mac, Windows, iOS and Android dictation, and the mobile-only free quota (1,000/week) makes phones a first-class surface rather than an afterthought.

Superwhisper’s case is architectural: because recognition can run on-device, it works with no internet connection, and the docs frame the privacy difference that way — on the Free plan “nothing you dictate leaves your device.” It also carries mode flexibility (built-in AI modes plus custom ones you define), file transcription on Pro, system-audio recording and speaker separation, and it sells where you buy: the website is the recommended, cheaper channel, and the App Store price is higher because of platform fees.

For the record, Superwhisper runs its own comparison page at superwhisper.com/vs/wispr-flow, and it is a marketing page: we use it only for facts it attributes to itself (offline support, Windows shipping since 2024), and we re-read Wispr Flow’s own pricing grid for every number in the table above.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Wispr Flow if you write in a team and need everyone to share the same dictionaries and snippets, or if the meeting Notetaker is part of your dictation budget. The 2,000-word weekly free quota is enough to prove it works before the $12/month annual plan kicks in.
  • Pick Superwhisper if you dictate into an IDE or on a plane: the free tier is unlimited offline dictation with no expiry, Pro is cheaper at every billing period, and the $249.99 lifetime option ends the subscription question permanently.
  • Both are free to start. Wispr Flow gates its free tier by words per week; Superwhisper gates its free tier by features. Whichever quota model you’d rather live with is the one to try first — neither vendor puts a card on file for the free plan.
