Price terms as published
Each line is the vendor’s own wording, split from the price capture checked on 2026-10-06. Nothing here is rounded, converted or re-worded — the full sentences stay in the review below. Lines that carry only a price continue the plan named on the line above, in the vendor’s own order.

One-liner: Both products exist to write your meeting notes for you. Granola refuses to put a bot in the room and asks you to type while it improves what you wrote; Otter joins every call as a participant and hands 300 transcription minutes away for free. Pricing re-checked on both official pages 2026-10-06 — first checked 2026-09-15, and not one list price moved in the three weeks between (Otter’s page is still running a limited discount view, noted below).

Verified facts (both pages re-read 2026-10-06)
Granola (granola.ai/pricing)
| Plan | Price | Core inclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0/user/mo | AI meeting notes, AI chat within and across meetings, shared folders, custom templates, multi-language, model-training opt-out |
| Business | $14/user/mo | Everything in Basic plus unlimited notes and history, advanced integrations (Attio, Notion, Slack, HubSpot, Affinity, Zapier), MCP integration, API access, centralized billing |
| Enterprise | $35/user/mo | Plus SSO, priority support, org-wide auto-deletion, admin controls, org-wide training opt-out |
Notable: the current pricing page shows exactly three tiers — Basic/Business/Enterprise — with no single-user paid step; you go from free straight to $14/seat. No annual discount is published. (We make no claim about the price or timing of any earlier individual plan; older tiers referenced in third-party reviews could not be verified against current official pages.)
Otter.ai (otter.ai/pricing)

Independent cross-check (2026-10-06)
Instead of trusting our own notes, we read six third-party 2026 pricing write-ups against each vendor’s page:
- Otter agrees everywhere. MeetGeek, Craftnote, Spokenly, Sonix, Claap and Notta all report the same ladder: Basic free with 300 minutes, 30 minutes per conversation and 3 lifetime imports; Pro $16.99 monthly / $8.33 annual with 1,200 minutes, 90 minutes per meeting and 10 imports a month; Business $30 monthly / $19.99 annual. Six independent sources plus the vendor’s own table agreeing is the strongest result on this page.
- Granola agrees on price, disagrees about the free tier. Tool Atlas (verified 2026-07-17), ItsConvo (re-checked September 2026), tldv, UseCarly, Layer3Labs and Nebify all confirm Basic $0 / Business $14 / Enterprise $35 with no $18 Individual tier — solo plans were retired in Granola’s February 2026 restructure. Where they contradict each other is the free history cap: several still quote “25 notes total” or “14 days”, while granola.ai now prints no number at all. We go with the vendor’s page and flag the stale version, because you will meet it in search results.
- And one correction to our own earlier copy. The $4.17 Pro promo we noted on 2026-09-15 is gone; today’s discounted card reads $8.49 with a footnote tying the offer to India-issued cards. List prices, by contrast, moved nowhere.
The actual fork: bot in the room or not
This is the decision that matters more than either price list.
Granola is bot-free. It does not join your Zoom or Teams call. You type notes during the meeting on your own device, and Granola enhances, structures, and summarizes what you wrote afterwards. The consequence is two-sided: calls feel normal (your counterpart never has to accept a bot invitation), but if you type nothing, the AI has little to work with. Third-party reviewers consistently describe it as “for people who type notes during calls.”
Otter sends a bot. Otter.ai joins your meeting as a participant and transcribes everyone in real time. The consequence: it captures everything with zero typing effort — but every meeting needs another attendee to approve, some organizations block bots outright, and your speaker diarization depends on that cloud model working for your voices.
If your meetings are 1:1s you attend fully, Granola’s workflow is the lower-friction choice and the reason it’s the more discussed of the two. If you record panels, webinars, calls you can’t attend, or just don’t type in meetings, Otter’s coverage is the only one that gets the words down.
The price math nobody puts in a table
- Free tier is genuinely useful in both cases but decays differently. Otter’s 300 monthly minutes reset every month and are enough for ~10 average-length meetings — usable indefinitely by a light user. Granola’s free Basic plan has unlimited meetings but a limited history window: the pricing page as read on 2026-10-06 prints no number at all (“see limited meeting history”), while several 2026 reviews put it at 30 days, so nothing accumulates for later search unless you pay.
- Mid-range is where the two diverge. A solo user who needs unlimited history pays $14 at Granola or $8.33 at Otter Pro — but Otter Pro caps at 90 minutes per meeting and 1,200 recording minutes, so a single long workshop burns a quarter of your month. Granola’s $14 has no per-meeting cap.
- Teams: Otter’s Business at $19.99/seat (yearly) beats Granola’s Business at $14/seat only if you need the 4-hour meetings and concurrent-call handling. Otherwise Granola’s $14 buys unlimited history plus integrations for ~$6 less. (Otter month-to-month Business is $30, where the gap widens to $16.)
- Watch the promo view. At the 2026-10-06 re-check Otter’s page still shows a discount in monthly view — Pro at $8.49 (against the $16.99 list) and Business at $24 (against $30, marked 20% off for three months) — and the footnote under those cards now reads “*Offer valid only with an India-issued credit card.” Treat them as a regional teaser, never as the rate you will be billed at.
- Enterprise lands within $2 of each other ($35 vs custom/quoted), where SSO and security push out the price difference.
Who should pick which
- Pick Granola if your meetings are attended 1:1s, you already take notes, your counterpart would notice (or complain about) a bot, and you want an unlimited-meeting paid tier without per-minute meters.
- Pick Otter if you record hands-off, host long or multi-day sessions, need iOS/Android recording away from a laptop, or your free 300 minutes already do most of the job.
- Pick neither if you want a free tier that keeps everything forever — neither vendor offers that; both make unlimited retention the paid gate.
What we deliberately didn’t test
Neither company offers a free trial beyond the free tier itself, and we have not sat through two weeks of real meetings on either product. Transcription accuracy, speaker-separation quality on mixed-accent rooms, and the real quality of Granola’s note-enhancement are the things that decide this in practice — and that’s exactly where a hands-on test with your own meeting audio would beat our official-page reading. Every number above is from the two vendors’ own pricing pages as fetched on 2026-10-06.
