Price terms as published
Each line is the vendor’s own wording, split from the price capture checked on 2026-09-29. Nothing here is rounded, converted or re-worded — the full sentences stay in the review below. Lines that carry only a price continue the plan named on the line above, in the vendor’s own order.

One-liner: Hypit is an open-source CLI that gives AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) a language and a rendering system for video. Drop in a reference video and your agent clones the entire workflow — footage, captions, B-roll and effects, “all anchored to words instead of seconds” — then writes it out as an editable SVML composition you can re-run. The repo’s own headline: “1 command, 100 variants.”

What the architecture actually is
The README states the framing plainly: “Hypit gives AI agents (Claude Code, Codex…) a language and system to create video.” The differentiating word is language. Video output is described as SVML — “a markup language for human and agent editing” — and the central claim is an anchor model: elements bind to spoken or on-screen words, so swapping the narrator, flipping a ranking, or replacing every subject in the footage re-renders the composition without touching captions. Outputs are “an editable, re-runnable composition, not a one-off render.”
Installation is a single skill-add command, and “your video project can live
anywhere.” The README is explicit about the cost split: “Hypit is free to use;
your Coding Agent and model services have their own accounts and charges.” The
repo names HypiHub (its own hosted model service) as the recommended path but
leaves the door open to “your own API or local models,” pointing at
docs/guide/service-partners.md and docs/guide/agents.md for the catalog.
Modeled partner services are documented in the README with their own affiliate links — HiAPI (GPT Image 2.5, Seedance 2.0, Veo 3.1, Kling, Wan), Pollo API (300+ image and video models, one key, 10 to 10,000+ requests), and BeatAPI. Those are partner descriptions, not Hypit pricing.
The catches
- The license is not plain Apache-2.0. The badge reads “Apache-2.0 with
conditions” and the LICENSE file confirms it: the conditional terms sit
on top of Apache 2.0 and cover both
hypit-ai/hypitandhypit-ai/hypithub. Multitenant or commercial use requires explicit written permission; the only explicitly permitted redistribution is non-profit or non-commercial. If you are evaluating it for an ad-agency pipeline or a hosted product, that email is a prerequisite, not a footnote. - There is no free generation path. Unlike tools that gift credits, Hypit holds no model serving of its own. Every render is billed by the provider you connect — the $1.15 figure above is a real worked example from the README, but it is 20 concurrent 720p/1K generations, and a 5-minute script-based sequence means far more calls.
- Six weeks old at 14k stars. The repo was created 2026-07-29 and the issue/PR split is 62 open issues against 278 open PRs — a contribution backlog roughly 4.5× larger than the issue queue, which is typical of a fast-growth project that has not yet caught up on review. Release cadence is currently healthy (v0.2.10, v0.2.11, v0.2.12 across 2026-09-20 to 2026-09-21), but the surface area is new.
- “Clone a video” is the entry point, not the only mode. The README pushes back on its own positioning: “cloning a video is the fastest way in, not the only one” — templates and a described-from-scratch path are also supported.
- Outputs carry downstream terms. The README’s own line: “The videos and other outputs you create belong to you; third-party models and services may have their own terms.” Model-provider usage terms still apply to what you ship.
Who should use it
Short-form video operators and paid-social teams who already have a clip that works and want to scale it rather than invent it: the README’s worked cases are paid social ads (clone a winner from the Meta Ad Library, ship 50 hook variants in one day, re-run fresh openings when it fatigues), viral clones from TikTok or Shorts, UGC, podcasts, and street-interview formats. Developers fit naturally because the interface is a coding agent — you describe the video and the agent writes the workflow.
Budget for the generator, not for the tool. And read the LICENSE before you point it at commercial or multitenant workloads.
